A little bit later than planned, I’m finally sharing the first vlog from Rome with you today. But I don’t want to share the vlog only; I want to tell you a little bit more about our first day in Rome as well. As I said before, we booked one of the first flights from Berlin to Rome that day and had to be at the airport around 5.30 am. After the two hour flight and a short train ride to Termini, we just had to walk a few meters until we finally arrived the hotel. It was still super early and therefore we couldn’t check in. We left our luggage at the hotel and started exploring Rome. Well, we first were looking for a breakfast spot, what wasn’t easy at all. We ended up buying a sandwich and coffee to go because all the restaurants were still closed. In the end, we just wanted to eat something, no matter what, and the sandwich answered our purpose.

After that quick breakfast, we were all set up to explore Rome. We were walking along the streets around our hotel before we were heading to the Altare Della Patria. It’s such a huge building, well monument, and you can see it from everywhere. We walked up the stairs to the top and enjoyed the beautiful view of the city. Pincio might be my favourite viewpoint in Rome, but Altare Della Patria isn’t bad either. You get to see Rome from another point of the city, and it’s quite nice. We found a shady place on top of the staircases and decided to rest for a couple of minutes before walking all the way down again. I usually don’t mind walking stairs, but it was way too hot and exhausting that day.

After that we decided to go back to the hotel to see if we could check-in, take a shower and rest a little bit, but the room was still not ready. That is why we left again, this time, to find a charming gelateria and to eat some Italian ice cream! We found one a few blocks from our hotel, I had Nutella, and my boyfriend had chocolate, and both flavours were soooo delicious! I eat a lot of ice cream in Berlin, and we have an excellent ice cream shop nearby our office, but you can’t compare it to the ice cream we had at this place in Rome! After enjoying our ice cream, we wanted to give it another try and walked back to the hotel to see whether we could check in or not. And this time, we finally could! We went straight to the hotel room, had a shower and relaxed for a while. We had perfect timing, because just a couple of minutes after we finally entered the room, it began to rain! Therefore we spent about two hours at the hotel before going outside to continue exploring Rome.

That afternoon and evening we already walked to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps as well as the Piazza del Popolo, sightseeing spots we passed several times during our Rome trip. We ended our first day with dinner in a cute restaurant nearby the Trevi Fountain. I had pasta, and my boyfriend had pizza, both was quite good. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of the restaurant, but you can find another restaurant recommendation in my Rome Travel Guide.

That’s it for our first day in Rome. Don’t forget to watch the vlog, if you want to see everything I just wrote down in pictures 😉 And, of course, don’t forget to let me know what you think about the vlog. xx
